Wabi-Sabi!!!!!!!

In terms of your crafting ........
Do you feel like you can never do it quite right?
Could your card always be just a little bit better?
Do you keep imperfections from letting you create something and actually gift someone
     with it?

Consider Wabi-Sabi . . . . what it can mean for your crafting life, and your life in general . . . . .

(From "Momastery:"

"I hereby declare this year The Year of WABI-SABI.
You guys, I am having seven million heart attacks. LOOK WHAT IS A THING:
"Wabi-sabi is the most conspicuous and characteristic feature of traditional Japanese beauty and it occupies roughly the same position in the Japanese pantheon of aesthetic values as do the Greek ideals of beauty and perfection in the West". If an object or expression can bring about, within us, a sense of serene melancholy and a spiritual longing, then that object could be said to be wabi-sabi. "Wabi-sabi” nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect." (Wikipedia)
FOR EXAMPLE: Wrinkles mean you lived and learned. Dirty dishes mean there were folks eating, and food to eat. A scar means you survived. A spelling mistake reminds us that a human - not a robot - wrote the word. A broken heart is a heart that cared.
THESE things are beautiful. Old things, worn out things, simple things, busted-up things, imperfect things. THESE THINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL.
You guys -- it’s not that we’re lazy or lack vision. IT IS JUST THAT WABI-SABI IS OUR PREFERRED AESTHETIC. IT IS JUST THAT WE ARE EASTERN, BASICALLY.
And so today as you walk through your home and think through your life -- as you notice that imperfect kid, that struggling relationship, that peeling paint, that achy knee -- you just think to yourself: WABI-SABI, WABI-SABI, WABI-SABI. It’s a THING. IT’S OUR THING.
I HEREBY DECLARE THIS THE YEAR OF THE WABI-SABI HOME, MARRIAGE, FRIENDSHIP, KITCHEN, PARENT, FAITH, LIFE!!!!!
That is all. Wabi-Sabi On.
Love, G
P.S. My family is only half Japanese and so if I decide to dye my grey roots or buy new shoes it’s fine because: Half-Japanese = HALF WABI-SABI. I am simply trying to be true to both sides of our heritage. Just so you know.

TERRIFIC TIP TUESDAY 8-5-14 Enhance Your Shape!

No . . . I'm not talking about an exercise program............. :-)

Shape is what art is all about!  So here's one way to enhance your shape . . .

This fireworks-like stamp image  features a "star" shape.  How can you make that even better?  You could color one in ......... You can stamp another image and cut out a star, mounting it . . . (Can you see those on the card above?)

But how about adding something three-dimensional?  How about adding something PLUS something ELSE, three-dimensional?  This not only adds more in the way of a repeated design, but it adds texture, as well.  By adding a couple of stars from the "Chalk It Up" Assortment, below, you can see how shape, color and texture are all multiplied here.......

Then by adding some White Enamel Stars, the same shape is enriched yet again, with a different color and texture.

Think of other shapes easily enhanced ......... hearts, arrows, chevrons, simple circles, triangles...........

Your artist's eye LOVES to see repetition of shape . . .
Enrich and enhance your designs with added, complimenting embellishments!
Fun, creative, and oh, so artsy!
